Gary Gauvin started out as an employee of David's, then moved to being a partner in the national CEN-TA chain, then moved on to his own cross-border tax practice out of Texas. The two have remained in contact over the years and share information and answer each others' questions on this complex and challenging subject.

We're sure you'll learn a lot about what it takes to deal with even as simple a thing as being a US citizen living in Canada, or a Canadian working in the US but having a Canadian RRSP.

Globalism and the Internet - Laws and Treaties that Will Change the World

The format of Around the World is changing. David Ingram and Richard Pitt will co-host the show, dealing with a broad variety of controversial topics in a similar manner to David's earlier television show. You'll learn some of the background of both David and Richard as they lead into the real topic for tonight.

The topic tonight is copyright and what the media publishers are doing to drive governments to try to control it. Richard gets into the reasons this has become a perceived problem to the publishers, showing the history of the growth of the internet and disk storage, then deals with the economics and why it really makes no sense for the publishers to treat their customers as the enemy. Lots of examples and definitions of terms so you can understand what is going on when your government introduces new legislation that becomes controversial.

Personal insights and on the spot knowledge of how personal music copying started and grew, along with why there is a problem with what the music publishers want to do about it.

Fred Snyder - Estate Planning

David and Fred start out with their views on BCAA as Fred almost didn't make the show due to a flat tire.

The topic of the evening is Estate Planning and it turns out that Fred has finally convinced David to purchase a RRSP. There's a reason that must be compelling because David is usually adamant that you're better off paying down your consumer debt and mortgage, or investing outside the RRSP shelter.

Fred also let's us know some of his feelings about Management Expense Ratios (MER) on mutual funds. Read on to watch the show.

Roger McAfee - the RCMP and the Canadian Justice System

Roger McAfee was lawyer and a Crown Prosecutor for the City of Vancouver. David forwarded an email to him from a RCMP officer that expresses concern over "the media beating the hell out of us" (referring to the RCMP). With that as the lead in, Roger brings forth a series of stories and insights into how the RCMP operates and why it makes a lot of sense for British Columbia to terminate the contract with them and establish a provincial police force.

From recent activities with the pipeline bomber to the Dziekanski taser death at Vancouver International airport and the "Stanley Park 6" incident.

David and Roger have many friends in common in and around the justice system and the interview serves up many stories. The interview includes an interesting story about identity mix up - Roger had to take the officer's gun away - and got him moved to another detachment.

The corporate culture of the RCMP - lying and stonewalling. If you live in Canada you should watch this interview. read on...

Dan Walkow - Currency Trading and Cross-border Investments

Dan and David Ingram discuss Seabank Capital's accounts and the fact they can contain products in both US and Canadian dollars saving the discount fees normally charged by other firms when you sell or buy US investments (as a Canadian) or Canadian investments in the US. The savings can be dramatic.

During the show David answers a question from a Canadian interested in purchasing real estate as an investment from the California market. The answer to this question provides an insight into what is currently happening in the US real estate market today and alludes to a coming crisis in the near future as a new series of mortgages come due for rate increases.
