David and Fred start out with their views on BCAA as Fred almost didn't make the show due to a flat tire.

The topic of the evening is Estate Planning and it turns out that Fred has finally convinced David to purchase a RRSP. There's a reason that must be compelling because David is usually adamant that you're better off paying down your consumer debt and mortgage, or investing outside the RRSP shelter.

Fred also let's us know some of his feelings about Management Expense Ratios (MER) on mutual funds. Read on to watch the show.

<dc:subject>Fred Snyder - It's Your Money</dc:subject>

David Ingram and Fred Snyder discuss several scenarios of investment for long-term income streams with minimal tax and "claw-back" exposure

Insurance as an option to an otherwise standardized investment for an income stream - where the taxable income is as little as 10% of the actual monthly stream allowing minimal taxation and keeping overall income below the level that other government pension and security payments would otherwise be clawed back at.

Using your RRSP to make your mortgage tax deductible. There are many ways to use your current investments to make your otherwise non-tax deductible personal mortgage into a fully tax deductible investment mortgage. Using rental property income to do this is also discussed.

Discussion of disparity between income from investment in bonds and investment in mutual funds or other securities. People lose sight of the fact that by bond maturity they've paid tax on the interest income. "Salary and interest income are the tw...

David and Fred discuss retirement planning. One of the most interesting questions is whether it is a good thing to take your CPP early at a reduced rate or wait until you qualify for the full pension.

Along with the discussion of pensions, Fred and David get into another lengthy discussion about financial planning with examples of when it pays to use your savings to pay off consumer debt, as well as why and how to make loans and mortgages tax deductible.

Fred has some very fixed ideas about why some people get stuck with ineffective investments and why some brokers and agents simply don't advise people the best ways to do things.

We're sure you'll enjoy this interview, especially if you are nearing retirement.

Second in the series with Fred Snyder this Wednesday evening, this segment deals with financial planning.

Fred has spent long hours creating a computer tool that he uses to get to know his clients. This financial planning tool helps him help his clients get to know their financial health, asperations and fallbacks - and is provided freely by him to his clients and those who think they might like Fred to help them with investments.

"If you don't plan, you'll never get where you want to go" says Fred - and he backs it up with examples and stories.

In the first of 4 segments with Fred Snyder this week, David and Fred talk about how a personal mortgage can be turned into a business tax deduction for anyone who has personal business income such as rental, SOHO, or investment income outside of a corporation.

Many financial people will tell you that it is "illegal" in Canada to have your home mortgage as a tax deduction - this is absolutely not correct. They're sort of right in that this cannot be done for anyone simply earning wages - but for anyone with any other kind of income not earned through a corporate entity they control (don't incorporate - just do the business in your own name or as a "Doing Business As") then it is both straight forward and perfectly legal.

Listen to David and Fred on this long-known method of paying your mortgage with "before tax dollars"

<dc:subject>Fred Snyder - It's Your Money</dc:subject>

"How many people in this audience have a financial plan?"

This was the question Fred Snyder asked a group of 600+ "Financial Planners" at a seminar many years ago - and the answer was, none!

Fred does financial plans for people before he'll even talk to them about what mutual fund or insurance product he might sell them. David and Fred have done numerous radio shows together as well as particpating in financial shows and seminars for years. It is Fred who took David's initial insight into making a Canadian mortgage tax deducktible and started it on its way to being called "the Smith maneuver" through a seminar he gave to employees of the company that included Fraser Smith, the author of the book on the subject.

"What is your risk tolerance?"

"what is the definition of a high risk investment?"

"how much loss can you handle?"

These and other questions are dealt with in ...
