Roger McAfee - the RCMP and the Canadian Justice System
Wednesday, January 13 2010 @ 07:00 PM PST
Roger McAfee was lawyer and a Crown Prosecutor for the City of Vancouver. David forwarded an email to him from a RCMP officer that expresses concern over "the media beating the hell out of us" (referring to the RCMP). With that as the lead in, Roger brings forth a series of stories and insights into how the RCMP operates and why it makes a lot of sense for British Columbia to terminate the contract with them and establish a provincial police force.
From recent activities with the pipeline bomber to the Dziekanski taser death at Vancouver International airport and the "Stanley Park 6" incident.
David and Roger have many friends in common in and around the justice system and the interview serves up many stories. The interview includes an interesting story about identity mix up - Roger had to take the officer's gun away - and got him moved to another detachment.
The corporate culture of the RCMP - lying and stonewalling. If you live in Canada you should watch this interview. read on...

- Speeding across Alberta in his Aston Martin DB4 - David's story about road blocks leads to stories by Roger that show the police in less than stellar light
- Roger has written about RCMP actions in the past - including a story that got filed into Hansard in the Canadian parliament. "What I'm seeing happening right now is really scary"
- Roger and David are both in favour of a provincial police force. David also thinks that individual communities should have their own police force. "The police force has to be responsive to the local community"
- "Give me your driver license because I'm a policeman" - Police overstepping their bounds and treating the ordinary citizen as an enemy. The corporate culture of the RCMP.
- Blame somebody else - wrapping up the interview.
Roger McAfee, besides being a lawyer and ex crown prosecutor, is a boating fanatic and writer. You'll enjoy his previous interview on "the Warm Dry Boat" and his other works.
