Mari Swingle - Neurotherapeutic Treatment of Children
Wednesday, May 06 2009 @ 01:00 PM PDT
Mari Swingle speaks with David and shows examples from children with a variety of problems, where things like writing and concentration are helped by the use of the neurotherapeutic tools and techniques developed by her father, Paul Swingle.
Some interesting insights into how "the system" pigeon-holes children with one of the eleven different types of developmental and attention deficit problems into a single classification of ADHD (and get them drugged so the teachers/parents can cope with them), when each of these different types is treatable to greater or lesser degree by the appropriate feedback and teaching methods.
The examples of writing skills, both formation of the letters and words and the actual content of the writing, show how much can be done in a few sessions of "brain tuning" or "brain driving"
After the child's brain functions - the frequency and amplitude of the various classes of brain waves are recorded and analyzed (mapped) using EEG equipment - a program of both voluntary and involuntary modification of problem brain activity is begun. Children with brain activities that are outside "normal" (such as higher than normal amplitude Theta waves which indicate lack of concentration,) get light and audio stimulus that cause the brain to moderate or change the relevant waves. Once the child has been brought to the point where they can learn to do this themselves, they are shown how to initiate the changes themselves and learn to control the problems for the long term.
The discussion with David about his own children's sessions and results with Mari show that these techniques are effective.
